A new technology now offers a potential alternative: using your electric car as a home battery. The idea is tempting\u2014charging your car with solar energy and then using that energy later to power your home. But is this option really as straightforward as it sounds?   <\/p>\n<p>Using your car as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solled.be\/en\/individuals\/solutions\/home-battery\/\">home battery<\/a> can be interesting but comes with quite a few <\/span><b>limitations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which doesn\u2019t receive much attention. On sunny days, we take this into account and charge using the electricity generated by the solar panels, which is free or at least significantly cheaper. This is <b>smart charging<\/b>.  <\/p>\n<p>In the evenings, there\u2019s no household consumption here (except for the dishwasher), so I can leave with a fully or well-charged battery. At home, I could, in principle, use this power. This work-home situation is very common, but here\u2019s the catch. If I want to use my car in a V2G setup, I would be consuming the energy I charged during the day at work for my daily needs at home. This sounds like a great application\u2014except that this power must, of course, be <i>cheaper<\/i> than the energy I could generate (and store) at home. If it isn\u2019t, then my economic model no longer works, and I end up paying more.     <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4dfda1b e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"4dfda1b\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f7f4010 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f7f4010\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each work and\/or home situation is different, so we need to <\/span><b>carefully consider or seek advice on whether such investments are worthwhile <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and where we can gain the most benefit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If I want to charge my car during the day with my own solar panels and then use that energy in the evening, I must also ensure that I never end up with too little energy left in the car. After all, this battery is needed for driving around. <\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b1acd40 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b1acd40\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Conclusion: Are electric cars the replacement for home batteries?<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ac64095 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ac64095\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, if we regularly need our car or if we can&#8217;t charge it cheaply during the day, then this &#8216;mobile&#8217; home battery isn&#8217;t really a viable option.
